Total Lubmarine has introduced a new Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) that meets regulatory requirements and enables lubrication of sensitive applications such as open gears and chains working under water.
The BIO OG PLUS EAL is a grease that is biodegradable, allowing shipowners and operators to remain environmentally conscious in their operations and comply with regulatory requirements including the United States 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP). According to the regulation, all vessels must use EALs in all oil-to-sea interfaces, unless it is not technically feasible.
As well as being environmentally acceptable, BIO OG PLUS’s extreme pressure, mechanical stability, and adhesive properties allows it to be used on components under water where water contamination is common. It is also applicable to applications that require a wide temperature range as the lubricant is able to operate between -20 to 90°C with a high load capacity.
According to Total Lubmarine, the lubricant forms a durable lubrication film that reduces maintenance and down-time costs. Even in corrosive seawater environments, the lubricant has shown to have strong anti-corrosion performance.
Anne-Sophie Vaucheret, Marine Technical Engineer at Total Lubmarine says, “We are very happy to bring a new product into our range – and this is something that our customers have been asking for. We pride ourselves on an ability to offer an end-to-end lubrication solution, and with BIO OG PLUS, all of our customer’s needs are covered.”
