WinGD and HHI collaborate to increase ship intelligence

Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group have signed an agreement to provide greater insight into ship and engine data using digital technologies.

Through WinGD and HHI’s combined expertise, shipowners, operators, and managers will get better access to customer support services and advice on how to operate their ships more efficiently, particularly when challenges in engine and ship operations arise.

As part of the collaboration, WinGD will offer its Engine Diagnostic System (EDS), which provides continuous, intelligent-diagnostics of the engine and component performance. Ship operators are alerted prior to an alarm signal with the goal of scheduling necessary maintenance to improve safety and to avoid unscheduled engine interruptions. HHI will provide its INTEGRICT-Smart Ship Solution that was designed to realise economic and reliable navigation of ships by collecting and analysing real-time information on navigations to improve efficiency and safety of shipping.

By collaborating with WinGD, HHI’s INTEGRICT Smart Ship Solution will benefit from the integration of deep analysis of the smart engine diagnostics from WinGD’s EDS.

Carmelo Cartalemi, General Manager, Business Development at WinGD says: “The shipping industry is constantly looking for new and efficient solutions to improve profitability through reduced operating costs. Recent progress in Information and Communication Technology and the availability of robust digital solutions are creating new opportunities within the marine industry.

“We believe that ship operation can be further improved through a smart ship solution. With WinGD we have the possibility to access deeper insights from the main engine. Combined with our ISS intelligence this offers our customers a level of knowledge and understanding of their ship that is unparalleled” adds Heung Won Seo, Research Director, HHI.

HHI and WinGD say that they will continue to collaborate to develop further tailor-made technologies to support shipowners throughout the lifetime of their fleet operations.
