Anders Lindmark, Head of Alfa Laval PureBallast

Product tanker owner and operator TORM has announced that it will retrofit 47 of its vessels with Alfa Laval ballast water treatment systems (BWTS).

36 Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 Ex systems will be installed to TORM’s existing fleet and 11 PureBallast 3 Ex systems will be fitted to newbuild vessels. The large flow PureBallast 3 Ex systems will be capable of handling flows of 2000 m3/h.

The units will provide remote access to operational performance data from the installed systems to secure long-term compliance with the IMO’s ballast water treatment regulation, while optimising vessel performance.

Jesper S. Jensen, Head of Technical Division at TORM said: “Based on careful evaluation of the solutions on the market and our experience with PureBallast 3 Ex on board, we are confident that Alfa Laval is the right choice for ballast water treatment on our tankers. The system’s high performance, in combination with Alfa Laval’s global presence and service offering, will mean compliance security for our vessels.”

The systems will be delivered between 2019 and 2024.
