Stena confirms 21 scrubber deal with Bluesoul

Stena Bulk has signed a turnkey scrubber solution agreement with Chinese Bluesoul to equip fifteen of its Suezmax and IMOIIMAX fleet vessels with scrubbers. The agreement includes the option for 6 further installations prior to 2020.

The shipping company says that scrubbers will ensure its fleets are well equipped for compliance with the IMO’s 2020 cap on sulphur emissions. Stena feels that by choosing scrubbers the company will be protected against fuel price volatility and fuel shortages.

Erik Hånell, president & CEO Stena Bulk commented: “In relation to market developments, today’s market predictions are attractive in theory and currently seems to be so in practice too, despite there being a couple of parameters that remain uncertain. However, there are opportunities already available today to lock in some of the uncertainty, which might be appealing when looking for a more secure investment. We are very happy to be able to confirm this order with Bluesoul, which has performed very well in terms of quality compared with more reputable manufacturers.”

Open-loop hybrid-ready scrubbers with water cleaning, which remove the sulphur and particles from the exhaust will be fitted across Stena’s fleet.
