Six maritime emissions regimes: 90POE secures independent certification for OpenOcean STUDIO

90POE’s OpenOcean STUDIO has received independent certification from Normec Verifavia across six major maritime emissions and fuel compliance regimes. The certification gives shipowners and managers an independently assessed system for handling emissions calculations, voyage data and regulatory reporting as EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime and IMO CII requirements shape fleet operations.

90POE has secured independent certification for its OpenOcean STUDIO platform from maritime verifier Normec Verifavia, covering six regulatory frameworks used by shipowners and operators to monitor and report emissions.

The certification covers EU MRV, EU ETS, UK MRV, IMO DCS, IMO CII and FuelEU Maritime. Normec Verifavia tested the platform’s fuel consumption and CO2 calculations, voyage allocation, activity data and IT controls, including security, confidentiality, archiving, performance and change management.

The result matters at fleet level because emissions compliance now reaches into routine commercial and technical operations. Shipowners must collect accurate activity data, allocate it correctly across voyages and produce records that can withstand scrutiny from regulators and other parties.

Dimitris Argyros, Senior Advisor at 90POE, said: “The complexity of maritime emissions regulations has grown sharply in recent years, particularly with the introduction of EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime on top of the IMO CII and EU/UK MRV requirements.”

He added: “Working through Normec Verifavia’s systematic process gave us the opportunity to stress-test our product features and calculation logic against a wide range of real-world compliance scenarios, and it’s genuinely satisfying to see the platform holding up to that scrutiny.”

Normec Verifavia’s assessment followed ISO 17065 conformity assessment principles. Rajat Bishnoi, Business Unit Director – Shipping Emissions & Performance at Normec Verifavia, said: “90POE’s platform demonstrated robust, accurate implementation of the calculation and reporting requirements across a demanding set of regulatory frameworks.”

“This certification gives shipowners and operators independent confidence in the functionality and process OpenOcean STUDIO applies in demonstrating emissions compliance,” he added.

With FuelEU Maritime penalties and EU ETS allowance costs now live, and IMO CII ratings determining which vessels face mandated corrective action, independent certification gives ship management teams an external assessment of the systems they use to produce compliance data.

The wider implication is that emissions software is being judged on the quality and auditability of the data behind fleet decisions, rather than simply its reporting interface.
