RAD has launched a finance leasing programme for its RAD 40 electric outboard, giving boat owners and operators access to a complete electric propulsion package from £995 per month. The scheme covers the drive, battery and controls, with ownership transferring to the customer at the end of a three, four or five-year term.
The British marine technology company unveiled the programme alongside the 2026 Southampton International Boat Show, where electric propulsion is being presented as an option for existing and new vessels.
The RAD 40 delivers 40kW of continuous power and near-silent, zero-emission propulsion. The package includes the electric outboard, battery, steering wheel, throttle, control units and cables, with the system configured according to the vessel.
The financing model addresses one of the practical barriers to marine electrification. Rather than paying the full cost of an electric propulsion system upfront, customers can spread payments through fixed monthly instalments. RAD says configurable packages, including twin-drive arrangements, are also available.
Chris Shepherd, CCO at RAD, said the company wanted to give owners another route into electric propulsion.
“We know that the upfront cost of moving to electric propulsion can be a significant barrier for boat owners and operators, even when they are interested in making the switch. Leasing gives customers another route into electric propulsion, allowing them to access a complete system through a predictable monthly payment rather than a significant initial investment.”
The RAD 40 is designed for RIBs, powerboats and other leisure and commercial craft, with short and long shaft configurations available.
The leasing model also places electrification within the same financing decisions that boat operators already make when upgrading propulsion equipment. Rather than requiring a separate technology investment, the complete system can be acquired through a defined monthly cost and owned outright once the lease ends.
The starting £995 monthly price excludes VAT and is subject to the final system configuration required for each vessel.
